This photo of Bill Foley (#10) and myself at a basketball game in the old WHS gym.
But listen to this.
Here is how this scene ended. Because I remember it well. You see Bill was what was called the "trailer" on what was happening here, which was a very fast, fast break. So, as I proceeded along and got close to the basket the four defenders (Cornwall) had me surrounded. Now knowing that "Biss" Foley was trailing I flipped a behind the back pass to him, without even looking and while he was high in mid air he grabbed it and with one hand slam dunked it through the net.
OK, let me explain a few things. I admit that we really didn't even know about the phrase "slam dunk" in those days . We just called it dunk, as in "Nobody can dunk."
Anyway there was no "slam" word. But, the rest of the story is true , I swear. You can ask Foley, or Vito Magdelinskas (he got mad at us for showing off as I recall) or ask any of the Cornwall guys, or Ash Morgan. He was there, he'll remember.
I think this was the first slam dunk, or dunk, in the history of WHS. I don't know if there has been one since.
The photo was sent to me by Fred Giveans Fred might remember the Slam Dunk also. ... from
