This is Patty Lake. Re. Lee's Hotel. Buddy Houghtaling (Email: buddystexasred@adelphia.net) and Jeri Miletich Heinzelman (Email: jamh@capital.net) have sent notes about Lee's.

From Jeri
Reply on Lee's Hotel...Walt and I used to go there on Sunday nites for Steak Sandwiches and home fires. They were really good!! It was a big old house down behind the old mile track. It was torn down when it was bought by a Dr in Goshen, who built medical buildings on the site (near the new Goshen Hospital. Barnes' (can't remember the first names) ran the hotel and did the cooking.

From Buddy
FROM BUD HOUGHTALING to DONNA(1/30/04): LEE'S HOTEL WAS OUTSIDE OF DOWNTOWN ON SOUTH STREET, NEAR THE OLD MILE TRACK, WHERE THE OLD "HAMBLETONIAN" RACE WAS HELD EACH SUMMER TILL IT MOVED TO ILLINOIS. THE MAN WHO OWNED THE PLACE HAD A GRANDDAUGHTER NAMED PATTI LAKE. SHE USED TO STAY THERE FOR THE SUMMER. YES, ALL THE GUYS WERE CRAZY ABOUT HER, EVEN ME. AFTER I MET YOU [DONNA], THAT ALL CHANGED. I MET HER, I THINK, AROUND 1952 OR 3. SHE AND SHIRLEY STEVENS BECAME GOOD FRIENDS. MANY OF THE HORSEMEN WHO CAME TO GOSHEN IN THE SUMMER USED TO STAY THERE, SO SHE GOT TO KNOW THEM AND SO DID I. THEY WOULD GIVE ME ODD JOBS AROUND THE STABLES, TAKING CARE OF THE HORSES, GIVING THEM BATHS WITH A HOSE AND WALKING THEM AFTER A WORKOUT. IT WAS FUN. I WORKED MOSTLY FOR "DALE CAMRON" STABLES. I THINK ABOUT THREE SUMMERS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PLACE, IT MAY HAVE BURNED DOWN. I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE. ... from
