On behalf of the Warwick Valley High School boys basketball program and the Hall of Fame Committee, we would like to congratulate four former Wildcats on their induction into the Warwick Boys Basketball Hall Of Fame. Tonight, we pay tribute to four men whose efforts, commitment and past accomplishments on the hardwood as former Wildcats have helped shape the history of Warwick Wildcat Basketball. The Class of 2013 consists of the following four former Warwick High School Basketball players: Joe (Joby) Green III, Mel Langlitz, Jason Redner, and George Rudy. The Boys Basketball Hall of Fame Committee selected those individuals.
Melvin Langlitz, a 1959 graduate of Warwick Valley High School, a three-year starter (1956-59), played under Hall of Fame coach Vito Magdelinskas. He helped lead the 1958-59 team to the Orange County League (OCL) and Section IX championship. Langlitz was a key player on the Wildcats teams that played in the OCL championship game three consecutive years 1956-57, 1957-58 and 1958-59. The record of the 1957-58 and 1958-59 teams were 40 wins and only three losses. He was served in the United States Marine Corp from 1960-64 and upon leaving the military went to Rutgers University from 1965-68 on full basketball scholarship. Most memorable moments were playing in the OCL play-offs at West Point as a sophomore and being called, “Marvelous Melvin” by Bo Gill, the legendary sportswriter from the Newburgh News. ... from Greg Sirico
