One day, when we were both around eight years old, Alfred was telling me about the various chores that he did daily. Such things as real work, related to milking cows, riding tractors and cutting hay. Needless to say I was impressed and when he finished, I could not help but exclaim, "Boy, you know how to do lots of things."     Alfred must have sensed my feelings of inadequacy for he graciously replied, "Yeah, but you can do lots too."     "Like what," I said.     "Like throw a baseball, catch a football and run, " he said.     For the longest time I felt happy about Alfred's compliment. I knew it wasn't logical, but it still made me happy. Doubtless that is why I can remember it today. Karen and John Jankowski just conveyed the sad news that Alfred succumbed to cancer this past week. It was certainly unexpected to those of us who saw him at our last reunion in October 2000, dancing so gracefully with his wife Joan. Karen and John's note:Got e-mail from Tom and Joyce Gerlitz yesterday that we have lost Alfred Park, due to cancer. Figured someone already let you know but, thought I would mention it anyway. He sure was a great guy, seems like I knew him forever. Yes, yes, .. Alfred was a great guy, and a most prominent lad throughout those school years that we all shared with him.
